Symbolism

Sometimes a rocket is just a rocket

I took this photograph whilst visiting Kennedy Space Center last December.  It’s a Mercury/Redstone rocket with Mercury capsule atop - or, rather, it’s more than likely a replica.  I saw a photo of the rocket after a hurricane knocked it over and the Mercury capsule, at the least, was just an empty shell.  But that’s not the point.

The rocket is a classic phallic symbol. It is easily interpreted as being like a large penis, implying something about there being a penis involved somehow.  A photo of a rocket pointing at a large, ornate orchid might be trying to imply some sexual undertone or something, right?

Well, could be, rabbit.  Or, it could be suggesting something having nothing to do with sex and gender and something more about a certain semi-blogger’s future prospects.  Perhaps it’s a harbinger of things to come, and not a sexual metaphor at all.  Sometimes a rocket is just a rocket.

Does make you wonder why the rockets are all long and slender like that, though, doesn’t it?
